TECHQuest-Internship (TQ-I) forms special relationships between educational facilities, students and our companies to develop and deploy a statewide PAID Internship program. Our first goal is getting more companies offering PAID Internships, whether they use TQ-I or not. With the critical workforce shortage in our nation and state in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), we believe PAID Internships provide a real-world financial demonstration that will attract and retain more high school students into higher education degree programs focused on STEM majors. PAID Internships provide unique real-world activities for students to gain work-experience. PAID Internships help students better understand the world of work, its challenges, opportunities and relationships between compensation and work. To increase the number of PAID Internships, TQ-I provides a full concierge service that makes internships easy for companies and students. With students from more than 100 colleges and universities, participating companies get access to the best talent, with dozens and dozens of students competing for each internship position. Companies such as Phoenix Contact consider internships to be “an important part of our strategy…to be in the face of younger students.” Companies such as Phoenix Contact will be better positioned for growth in the long term by continuing their internship program in this short term period of slow economic growth.
